PAST FISHING REPORTS

CHECK OUT THE PICS BELOW

4-20  The photos below show you what I have been doing for the last several weeks with a before and after of Killin Times power plants.  One was a complete rebuild while we just spruced the other one up a bit with new gaskets a good cleaning new paint and a new distributor.  Waiting to receive a new exhaust manifold scheduled for Tuesday so we can complete the project and reinstall the motors.

BEFORE

AFTER

4-15  Spring prep continues with bottom paint now applied and the rebuilt motor also with a fresh coat.  Should be finishing motors this week and installing next.  Launch plan is for May 10th currently if all goes well with the motors and new dock.

4-9 Finished putting in a new head door today along with securing the Porti Potti.  Tomorrow we should complete reconstruction of the port motor and start with the starboard.  The boat is in the best shape it has ever been in and I am very excited about the new dock and opportunities for this year.  Several weekdays are still available in August along with the weekend evenings but they are starting to go fast.

3-30  Accomplished quite a bit this week with most of the reels strung with new line, all of the old and new tackle organized and a lot of the interior boat cleaning done including the removal of the old head in preparation for a new porti potti which should help a bunch on those hot August days.  On the agenda for tomorrow is washing of engine parts in prep for engine reconstruction later in the week and the installation of a new wash down pump.  Sounds like lots of Steelies in the Big M and a few Browns coming in the southern lake.  It won't be long now.

2-29   Well it's the last day of February which means we are quickly heading towards a new season as March is boat prep time with April launch month.  If you are out and about we will be at the Flint Steelheaders show this Sunday and in Grand Rapids on Saturday the 15th.  Both shows we will be working for the Michigan Stinger team so look us up if you are around we would love to chat for a while.  Also if you notice below we have been added to the Rapture Flies pro staff which is a great addition for us.  We have used Jeff's flies for years and some of his flies are genuine great lakes stand bys. I have already placed my first order and am excited to be able to use more of his product line this year.

1-20  The new website is is now up and running so if you get a chance check it out at the link below.  Just surviving the cold at the moment and hope to do some ice fishing when it warms a bit later in the week.

1-15   Not much to report except we had a great holiday season and have been working on a new website for our Pheasant guiding service.  This will be located at www.michiganpheasant.com when it is up in the next few days.  Have heard the river Steelheading was decent after the warm up but the ice fishing is not good as I can't get on the lakes I usually go to yet.  Things should firm up good after the cold snap this weekend.  We have very few August weekend openings left so if you are interested don't wait too long.

12-10  First update in quite a while but we have been very busy as our pheasant season ended in late November and then headed to Kansas for whitetail.  Since then we have been hard on the muzzleloader trail and will continue this for a week or so and then start some winter time projects on the boat along with tax prep.  Check out the pic below of my second Kansas buck which although was not a monster was all I was hoping for.  Also Ben has grown a bit since the last photo so I will put a fresh one up.

10-22  Well we have hunts booked the next five days but spent the whole day today getting the boat out of the water and safely home.  This is the first time we have stored the boat at the house but the plan is a motor rebuild and this will be much more easily accomplished with the boat close not to mention all of the trips to Ludington it will save in the spring

10-17  Well the new pup has arrived and the bird hunting continues to go very well.  The new Brittany named Ben will be Charlie's partner in the field next year and with some hard work should make for a great pair of bird dogs.  Check out his new pic below

10-10  Helped a buddy pull his boat today and started making arrangements to get mine out and the motors pulled.  Finished my bow stand yesterday and hope to get out soon but will be Pheasant hunting Fri through Mon.   Also finally got the rest of the 2007 pics that I had updated on the reports page.  Sorry to those I forgot but in the madness of August this is all I ended up with.

10-8  Hunted three times this past week with great success even with the hot weather we were able to put up more birds than we planted on every trip including Wed when I was able to shoot a 2 year old bird left over from last years hunts.  Fishing has been outstanding the last couple of days with double digit catches of 3 year old Kings and Steelhead coming out over 300-500 feet of water

10-1  The fishing season has now ended for us and the hunting season is in full swing with archery deer opening today.  Fishing on the Big M continues to be good to excellent and fishing on the big lake has slowed but should pick up very soon with cooler water.  The last two days I have been in the field with my best buddy Charlie (see him in the pic above, he is the orange and white one) guiding hunters for Pheasants with very good success.  Charlie is in his third season and at just over two years old is a great hunter and companion.  If you are interested in trying some of this great action at a very reasonable price give us a call.

9-25  Had our first guiding experience for Pheasants yesterday with very good results.  Out of the 12 birds put  out Charlie and Hank had 18 flushes and the customers were able to know down 10 of them.  Looks to be a busy week as we are supposed to fish Thurs, Fri, Sat and hunt Sun and Mon.

9-22  Sorry for the lack of reports but it has been mostly due to high winds and the inability to get on the lake.  I have three more trips next week and that will be all she wrote for 2007.  The new driveway is in and arrangements have been made to store the boat at the house this winter and begin our engine rebuild project.  Lots of work left to do but the best time of year is coming as we have been in the Pheasant field once already and several more hunts planned.

9-4  Fishing continues to be very good and the warmer water has moved the fish to deeper waters.  As long as the warmer temps hang around so will the adult Kings and the great fishing.  We will be out again on Thursday and Saturday and should have an updated report.

9-1  As before reports are slow as we are in the fish, sleep, fish, sleep program right now but fishing has been the best I have ever seen.  Our boxes the last few charters have been 13, 20, 14, 16, and 27.  These numbers were limited by number of customers and not time and it looks like it will continue for a while with south winds forecast.

8-28  Sorry for the lack of reports but we have been very busy as usual this time of year.  Fishing continues to be the best I have seen with many limit catches starting in shallow in the morning and working out to deep water during the day.  We are fishing 10 times in the next 6 days so I will try to get a new report if I get home long enough to do it.

8-22  Fishing has never been better than the last couple of days with limit catches of 18 and 21 the last two mornings fishing the harbor and on the beach.  South winds should move the fish back out to the shelf the next couple of days but excellent fishing should continue.

8-20  Took the morning off due to high winds and steady rain but had a great weekend with mostly limit catches of adult salmon.  Some fish are in the harbor now and we will probably try to fish there the next couple of days.

8-16  The slam fest continues in Manistee with our 8-14 trip landing 12 out of 24 in very heavy seas and then on 8-15 filmed this years edition of A-Way Outdoors and landed 19 fish by 9:30AM.  We will be back at it with 8 trips the next 4 days as long as the wind holds off.

8-13  When they say it doesn't get any better than this that would describe Manistee fishing right now.  We left dock at 6 PM and went 18 for 26 by dark.  All plugs once again although I think anything would work.  Hope to get pics updated tomorrow morning.

8-12  Morning off today due to storms and high winds but a chance top catch up on a few things was appreciated.  Fishing has been incredible with Fridays catches of 15 and 20 fish while Saturday brought 16 in the AM and 15 in the evening.  Hope to get out this evening if the winds hold off.

8-8  Very good morning with 14 big fish.  Fished 70-90 FOW 40-70 down and plugs have been hot.  Headed over to install new distributors this afternoon.  If what I have been told is right it should make the boat run 100% better.

8-6  Another great day on the lake yesterday as fishing was hot most of the day.  The morning brought a 10 fish box over 120# and the afternoon was 11 fish as we came in early with another 120#+ catch.  Fishing should do nothing but improve for the next month.

8-5  Friday was very good with limits on both trips but yesterdays hard east wind made it very difficult for some of the fleet.  We managed 6 fish in the morning.  Two more trips today and it looks like it will be nice so the fishing should be very good.

8-2  Fishing has been outstanding the last couple of days according to the fleet.  We fished a couple of hours yesterday and took 7 including a 24# which was by far our biggest of the year.  Sounds like the best action was straight out to a little south 40-100 down.
